About us

So who are these people at Best of Kenya?

Based in East Africa, but with satellite offices in the UK and the US, Best of Kenya consists of a small team of dedicated professionals, passionately promoting the best Kenya has to offer.

Between us, we provide an in-depth knowledge of East African information and safety tips for the safari of a lifetime. Besides our hand-on knowledge, we offer over 30 years of Kenyan, American and European experience in tourism, safaris, hotels, and restaurants.

Our Kenyan offices are completely self-sufficient. We generate our own power using a wind turbine and solar panels, powering our office equipment and lighting.

A percentage of our company profits support local community and conservation projects, such as the local orphanage, school classrooms, community library and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

In addition, we currently work with or are board members of:

  • Ecotourism Society of Kenya (ESOK)
  • The International Ecotourism Society (TIES), USA
  • African Centre for Conservation (ACC), Kenya
  • Green Globe 21 (member)

Melinda Rees - bestofkenya.comMelinda Rees was born to a mobile expatriate family; by the time she was 18, she had lived in 7 countries, on 5 continents. The longest period of time was spent in East Africa, with 7 years in Nairobi, Kenya.

Holidays were generally spent visiting yet more countries and cultures, providing her with personal experience of a wide range of locations, peoples, cultures, cuisines and transportation devices.

In 1993, the gypsy feet finally returned permanently to Kenya due to "the incredibly hospitable, friendly people, stunning landscape and fantastic wildlife. I have never felt 'at home' in the same way anywhere else in the world."

Melinda focuses her community work on education, schools and libraries. Contact Melinda at:
